Colpac was established in 1937 in Luton. At that time the company, known as Frank Coleman (Luton) Ltd, specialised in stitched boxes and was a main supplier to the hat trade, which was also based in Luton. In the early 70's, the company moved to Flitwick and over the years, production has developed from stitched and rigid boxes to printed folding cartons, catering disposables and partyware.
Colpac now has a world-wide reputation for design and development of paper board packaging, which are exported to over 30 countries.
Colpac is still a family firm; the current Managing Director, Neil Goldman is the son of the founder.

The first commercial cardboard packaging was produced in England in 1817 by Sir Malcolm Thornhill. The first cardboard box manufactured in the United States was made in 1895. By 1900, wooden crates and boxes were being replaced by corrugated paper shipping cartons. The advent of flaked cereals increased the use of cardboard boxes. The first to use cardboard boxes as cereal cartons were the Kellogg brothers. Since then one of the main drivers of the foodservice sector has been cardboard packaging, with its demonstrable advantages of printability and provenance from renewable sources.
